We did a little research here at Local 3250 and dug up some information on the lay-off that AT&T declared on March 15. Since SBC changed the windows for announcing lay offs so all AT&T would comply with their timelines, we thought our members would be interested in the total lay off numbers for all AT&T core contracts. The ink is not even dry on our contracts and the company is throwing us to the curb already.
Lay Off Numbers by Core Bargaining Unit AT&T Southwest (SBC), District 6 426 AT&T Southeast (BellSouth), District 3 306 AT&T Legacy T, Communications & Technology 271 AT&T Midwest (Ameritech), District 4 85 AT&T Northeast (SNET), District 1 150-Approx AT&T West (PacTel), District 9 902 (is the current #) Total as of this date………………………………………..2140 Nationwide We will update and adjust the lay off numbers from across the country as we obtain new information. This lay off is bad enough, but to continue to lay-off SNET employees while they are still negotiating a contract with AT&T is outrageous. Remember, it was the company that hammered us on the economic crisis and job loss in America during bargaining, even though the telecom corps were the least effected by market conditions. Well, here is AT&T’s contribution to the economic rebuilding, another lay-off. We couldn’t make this up, even if we tried. The struggle continues.
