CWA Avaya Bargaining Report & Strike Vote
Sunday, 17 May 2009

On Friday, CWA rejected and countered several of the retrogressive proposals the Company passed last week.  Although we have had several meetings this week, Avaya has not made any serious proposals, making it extremely difficult for a fair and equitable agreement to be reached by the deadline.  The Company wants to shift the cost of healthcare to all employees, retirees and actives.  They claim it is due to the economics of today; but with the same breath, they have made an official bid to buy Nortel Enterprise Systems.  Concessions in Healthcare are unacceptable.

As the early days of bargaining unfold, it appears the Company has decided to take a hard line everywhere.  As members we must let the Company know we are willing to do whatever is necessary to maintain our standard of living and protect our hard-fought wages and benefits.  CWA and its membership have continued to help Avaya establish itself in the business community, and we want to be part of its future.  To expect anything less is not acceptable.

Because of the lack of effort by the Company to hear our message, we are asking all our members and Locals to move forward with a strike vote.  It's important that Avaya hear us loud and clear.  We built Avaya, and we will fight to protect our jobs and benefits.  A strong message with a YES STRIKE VOTE will let the Company know how serious we are in our resolve.  It is imperative that you let management know that you stand in unity with the Bargaining Team and will do whatever it takes to achieve a fair contract.
